State Government : The next level

In my last blog we learnt about local government, in this blog we will step up to the next level and learn about State Government.

High level fundas :
====================
Center and State Governments together are responsible for 210 different subjects, among the 210 subjects :

97 subjects are exclusive to the central Government - these are the topics like countrys defence, Railways etc.,

66 subjects are exclusive to state Government - these are things like public health, police, irrigation, prisons, agriculture etc.,

47 subjects are shared between center and state ( this is called concurrent list), topics in this list are like: education,trade unions,electricity etc.,

I will not go into details of any of them, google for details.

Who is your goto person in State Government ?
=============================================
Its your MLA ! -> he would represent you in your states Legislature, so try to know him/her personally or atleast have good relation with a person who has good relation with him/her :-)

Learn About your Assembly Constituency
=======================================
Just like you had wards in Local Government - you would have "Assembly Constituency" in your state government, your MLA would represent you in "your assembly contituency".

My house in "Shakambari Nagar, bangalore" belongs to the "Jayanagar Assembly Constituency" at state level just like it belonged to "Ward Number 179" in local goverment.

Find out about your assembly constituency and your MLA today! thats your home work ;-)

Wings of State Government
===================================
Since I have already talked about what Legislature, Exeuctive and Judiciary do in my earlier blogs, here I will just map them to their implementations in State Government.

Legislature in State Legislature:
Every State has a Legislative Assembly where "MLA's" come to do their work :-), In karnataka this is "Vidhana Soudha" - In tamil nadu it is "Fort St George"(as of the time of writing,karunanidhi will change it if he comes to power!)

The political party that has the maximum number of MLA's will rule the state! they can select the chief minister, these days its become common to 'buy' MLA's .. Karnataka is a good example for this, urggh :-(

Executive  in State Legislature:
Chief minister and his council of ministers form the executive, they would be answerable to MLA's (Legislature) for all the works they do. So for example if there is a Mining scandal in Karnataka - all the MLA's from opposition would take Yediruppa(CM) to task !

Judiciary  in State Legislature:
High courts in state form the Judiciary of the state
